Gregory Archaeology

We take care of your past to enable your future

 Professional archaeologists practicing since 1988.

Archaeological management and mitigation of all facets of archaeological requirements.

Gregory Archaeology is a consulting practise that has engaged in multiple archaeological and built heritage projects since 2002. Prior to this it is founded upon a further fourteen years commercial heritage experience and is a member of the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland, founding member of the global Early Watercraft Association and candidate for associate member of Society of Chartered Surveyors of Ireland. Our team comprises a lead of three senior archaeologists, supported by six site archaeologists, which is increased by employing additional archaeologists to support our archaeological excavation and assessment work on a project-by-project basis. Our projects are supported by specialist consultants, such as osteo-archaeologist, archaeo-botanist, sample sieving and extraction, pottery, clay pipe and environmental specialists.

Our client base ranges from individuals to large national commercial developers, contractors and companies within the private sectors to local authorities and semi-state entities, such as Uisce Éireann, the Department of Education and the Health Service Executive within the public sector. Project profiles vary from single one-off houses and house extensions, farm developments, through to large-scale residential developments (including strategic development zones), upgrading of national utilities infrastructure, historic parklands developments and upgrades, greenways / blueways, to maritime / marine projects. Our conservation and restoration projects of medieval town walls, town gates, buildings, castles / tower houses to 18th and 19th buildings, including industrial archaeology, have frequently involved working in close collaboration with other heritage and conservation professionals to ensure project delivery to the highest standards and outcomes. We have also engaged as project leader for smaller conservation projects, in which we have included conservation professionals to participate to provide the most effective results, always with best heritage practise at its heart. Our landscape heritage assessments in tandem with lead conservation architects or landscape architects assess the extant heritage values of the landscape of a frequently evolved or dynamic landscape to determine and accordingly value the nature of the project’s impacts, so that appropriate design considerations are implemented to enhance the heritage values of the projects.

Gregory Archaeology’s client profile is frequently based upon continuing relationships due to our dedicated focus on the project and how we view each project, not as being solely archaeological work, but more critically that archaeology and cultural heritage is a crucial ingredient within the scope of the overall project remit. This integrated approach ensures that heritage remains a valued component of the project throughout each stage of the project. Our reputation as heritage practitioners has thus enhanced our client base, with word-of-mouth referrals as we always maintain an overview of each project in its entirety. We are strong advocates of early engagement with our clients and their projects so that archaeology and cultural heritage forms an integral component, in which we anticipate heritage impacts and provide fully informed processes from project inception to completion.
