I have been in Construction since 1976, first in a partnership and subsequently following my partner’s retirement I continued as a sole trader. I served my time as an apprentice carpenter with John J. Ronayne, Thurles beginning in 1970. During my apprenticeship I attended both Waterford Regional College and the Crescent College Limerick. In 2014 I travelled to Biberack in South Germany for a two-week course on air tightness and energy efficient buildings. I am constantly looking to further my knowledge of building technologies so I can effectively advise my clients on appropriate energy efficiencies.
Currently, two permanent employees also work in the business. Both are long serving employees and in the business we have trained a number of apprentices. They have gone on to form their own careers in the construction industry building on the principles they have learned in our company. We have employers liability, public liability and all risks insurance policy. We also have various plant and equipment including a teleporter, dumper, digger and forklift. We have a lot of repeat business from previous clients. For tasks I do not have the skilled workers for I use the same subcontractors for continuity of standards.
Throughout the years I have worked on a wide range of projects. I specialise in new houses and extensions. I have a proven track record of bringing houses from plans to move-in all the while maintaining a steady relationship with the home owner, some of whom I now call friends. I have also built commercial, retail outlets and schools. I have been involved in the building, renovation and extension of many primary schools in the Tipperary area.
I have a passion for working on heritage sites and have carried out projects for the Heritage Grant Scheme and the Buildings at Risk Scheme. This has enabled me to build up a great knowledge of sourcing materials and to sympathetically renovate listed buildings. I also contract for property maintenance. I am a member of Homebond for over 25 years.
One of my proudest projects was the reconstruction of Rossmore Church. Reconfiguring it from a post-Vatican II church with a mono-roof to a conventional style A-pitch roof with extensive refurbishment work to the interior.
